Fun with the Pettits and Turtles

One warm fall day, we embarked on an adventure with Nic and Bec to do BYU's tree tour. There are 121 different species of trees on BYU campus. We got a little booklet with a description of each tree and a map indicating their locations. We packed a picnic and walked to the duck pond on campus. But we had gotten a late start and alas, it started to rain. So we just enjoyed our sunny picnic and walked home in the light rain, abandoning the tree tour. Oh how fickle is the weather in Utah. Another day, Tree Tour, we will conquer you at last!

One Sunday afternoon a year or two ago, Jake and I walked down to enjoy the duck pond. Two shaggy teen boys rolled up on their skateboards and started looking over the pond, just like everyone else. When a friend happened by and saw them, he asked what they were up to. "Looking for turtles," they replied, their words dripping in their dude-y accents. We thought they were so funny, and weird...until we actually saw a turtle on our picnic. There he is, sunbathing for the ladies. Dudes: 1. Jake and Brenna: now, also 1. Everyone is a winner when turtles are involved.
