The 3rd Trimester!

Well, it's here: less than 1/3 of my pregnancy is left. I can't believe how fast the second trimester flew by! I know I'll regret saying this, but I hope the third trimester goes a little slower because I have so much left to do before Baby comes! (Ask me again in six or eight weeks, and I'm sure my tune will have changed.)

I'm doing pretty well. I now think that some of the "joint pain" I had in my hips is actually sciatic nerve pain, which is still a daily battle. It hasn't been as bad while just walking around anymore though. I get it more at night and when I stand up after sitting for a while.

I was having pains in my lower right abdomen that were really wearing on me and keeping me from getting much done. I would get a pretty terrible pain when I was trying to stand up after sitting a while. It would hurt bad whenever I tried to move around, and it would subside to a dull ache when I would relax. It would last for an hour or two at a time. The first time it happened, I even called the doctor's office because the pain was lasting so long and I was having a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions. She thinks it is just round ligament pain and said it usually goes away after the second trimester. Well, here I am in the third trimester, and it seems she was right. I haven't have the pain in a week or so. Yay!

At my last doctor's appointment they did a blood test, which revealed that I am anemic. She said they only put people on supplements if their iron is really low, and I'm on two supplements, so mine must have been abysmal. The good news is, I think the iron is making me feel a bit better. I have a little more energy, and I don't get as tired, worn out, and weak as I had been. I'm still not zipping along by any means, but I'm glad to be feeling a little better.

Anyway, Baby's room has come to a bit of a stand still as I've been trying to finish sewing a maternity dress I designed from a blouse pattern, hopefully in time to get some use out of it. However, I tried to design it so that it would be cute after the baby is born as well. It has pleats at the neck to add fullness around the body and a sash to tie at the waist so that it doesn't look like a sack dress. I've been working really hard on it, and all I have left is to hem the bottom! My dilemma: now that I have a big belly, how do I pin the hem so it will be straight when I'm not pregnant? Usually I try it on, but I might just have to do it on the hanger and hope that it ends up looking okay. I'll post a picture when I'm done.

Baby has been getting a lot more active in the last week or so, which has been really fun! She used to be pretty still and sleepy for most of the day, just a one or two kicks here and there. Then in the evening she would party it up with kicks, which sometimes made it hard to get to sleep. Jake said sometimes he would wake up in the middle of the night and put his hand on my belly, and she would be kicking up a storm. She still does that, but now she wakes up a lot during the day too. She fills my day with kicks, rolls, pushes, and flips! Sometimes I can even feel a little foot push out and rub across my belly - it's so funny! And she seems to react to Jake and I pushing at her. It seems like whenever I rest my arms on my belly, I get a few swift kicks in the arm, as if to say, "This is my space, Mom! Get your own." We like to think she has a funny little personality, and it makes us so excited to meet her in 12 short weeks! (That's right, get your Christmas shopping done quick, folks. The day is only 12 weeks away!)

Here are a few pictures featuring my growing belly over the last few weeks. Lucky you, I've included one or two sneak peeks from our little vacation, which I hope to post about soon (don't hold me to that - yikes!).

About 25 weeks:

About 26 weeks and on vacation (see if you can guess where we went):

Glamour shot on the cold, windy beach. Haha!

Jake was feeling left out.

28 Weeks (I got bangs!):

With less than 90 days to go, Baby is supposedly about 15 inches long from head to heel and about 2.5 lbs. She's getting bigger every day! We can't wait to meet her!
