Well, although my energy has increased in the second trimester, no one would know it since my joint pain and side aches keep my activity levels very low. I can't walk for very long before my hips start hurting and the side aches set in. The only way to get relief from the side ache is to stop walking completely, which seems silly since we're already walking so slow to accommodate my hips. I also did some baking one day this week, so I was on my feet for most of the day. Then when Jake got home, we did some canning, which meant more standing. By the time we were done, my feet were hurting equivalent to when we walked around New York City all day for four days, and they were swollen. I feel so lame!
What's worse is people keep telling me that they can't even tell that I'm pregnant. So it must seem like I have no excuse to be crawling through the grocery store at the pace of a snail. I know people mean this statement to be a compliment, but my belly is definitely visible by now. So it leaves me to wonder, did people think I had a fat belly before? Or is it still not clear that my belly is pregnant and not just fat? I'll let you decide.

Oh, and I have added a fun baby countdown at the top of the blog. It shows a fruit or vegetable comparable to the size of the baby each week. It's a little silly, but trust me, it's better than the illustrations of actual fetal development - those pictures always make the baby look like a creepy mutant. Enjoy!
